Mapping and characterization of agricultural establishments belonging to the sub-basin of Ribeirão Ferro-Carvão, Brumadinho- MG

The research aims at mapping and characterizing the farming establishments belonging to the sub-basin of Ribeirão Ferro-Carvão, Brumadinho-MG, that had farming as main economic activity before and after the rupture of the B1 Dam of the Córrego do Feijão Mine and that were affected by this "event". The material produced will subsidize the selection of these establishments  for the application of the methodology and Indicators of Sustainability in Agroecosystems (ISA).

The subproject unfolds in the following actions:

  • Identify and map all the Agricultural Establishments, belonging to the sub-basin of the  ribeirão Ferro-Carvão, that have as main economic activity the agriculture and cattle ranching,  through the data of official organs (p. e.g. IBGE and INCRA), documents of the communities  registered, arranged in associations of rural producers, municipalities, secretaries and other  entities that are holders of this type of information; 
  • Identify and enumerate the types of the main farming activities that were impacted by the rupture of the B1 Dam of the Córrego do Feijão Mine in relation to the establishments  identified within the Ferro-Carvão creek basin;
  • Select and delimit the establishments that had their agricultural activities impacted due to the rupture of the B1 Dam of the Córrego do Feijão Mine, within the basin of the Ribeirão Ferro-Carvão; 
  • Perform the multitemporal land cover and land use mappings on all identified establishments, from the material developed in Call 02;
  • Quantify, in each identified agricultural establishment, the area affected by the tailings  from the rupture of the B1 Dam of the Córrego do Feijão Mine, from the material  developed in the Call 02;
  • Quantify, in the sub-basin of the Ferro-Carvão creek, areas that before the rupture were destined to agricultural activities and that were affected by the tailings coming from the rupture of the B1 Dam of the Córrego do Feijão Mine; 
  • Generate a database in vector (shapefile type) and matrix formats, including their respective metadata, elaborated and used during all mappings (both for the  primary data and for the secondary data that have been used, intermediate and final),  according to the official Brazilian cartographic parameters; 
  • Provide information (tabular, vectorial, matrix and textual) to feed the Interactive Platform  (Call 01); 
  • Elaborate partial reports (with 30 and 60 days of project, after signing the contract) and  final(after 90 days of signing the contract), that serve as a descriptive memorial of  all the procedures performed and information obtained in this call, as a way to  contribute to the collection of studies related to the rupture of the B1 Dam of the Mina  Córrego do Feijão, for the Brumadinho Project - UFMG.

Stage 3- consultation and data collection with stakeholders;

Stage 4- description of the farming activities involved;

Stage 5 - -description of the total and productive area of the establishments;

Stage 6 - Delimitation of the affected agricultural establishments;

Stage 7- Mapping of land cover and land use before and after the dam breach of the affected farming establishments;

Stage 8- Compatibilization of the cartographic, tabular and textual products for feeding the Interactive Platform of the Brumadinho Project-UFMG.
